Creta Diesel Filter Regeneration Required
Diesel filter regeneration required on a Creta means its diesel particulate filter (DPF) holds more soot than driving has burnt off, and the car asks for a parked Self Regeneration, which the owner's manual writes for the automatic: engine warm, gear lever in P, about 30 to 60 minutes. The DPF warning light on its own may go off after driving at more than 60 km/h, or above second gear at 1,250 to 2,500 rpm, for about 30 minutes. A light that stays on after that drive, a blinking light or the engine check lamp with it needs a Hyundai workshop.
The diesel Creta costs ₹12,61,000 ex-showroom for its base model as on 1 November 2026; servicing, insurance renewals and fuel after that are the Creta diesel maintenance cost.
What the Creta DPF warning and message mean
The 1.5 CRDi diesel burns the soot in its particulate filter by itself whenever the exhaust runs hot, at normal and highway speeds. Repeated short trips, or long spells of slow driving, keep the exhaust too cool, and the soot builds up. The car then shows the DPF light, or the light with an alarm and the "Diesel filter regeneration required. See owner's manual" message.
Owners of the 1.5 diesel report that the diesel particulate filter warning comes on when the car is used mostly for short city trips, and goes off after a sustained faster drive or the manual's regeneration procedure.

| "Diesel filter regeneration required. See owner's manual" on the cluster | Self Regeneration, parked, about 30 to 60 minutes; on a manual gearbox, a Hyundai workshop | A Hyundai workshop if the DPF light then blinks |
| DPF warning light, steady | A drive at more than 60 km/h, or above second gear at 1,250 to 2,500 rpm, for about 30 minutes | A Hyundai workshop check of the DPF |
| DPF light blinking, or with the engine check lamp | No more driving than needed: acceleration is limited | A Hyundai workshop, soon |
Diesel filter regeneration required: the Self Regeneration steps
The owner's manual writes these steps for the automatic: the gear lever goes in P, and the procedure stops if it moves to D or R. It gives no version for the diesel manual, so on a manual gearbox take the message to a Hyundai workshop rather than improvising the steps.
Self Regeneration needs the car standing still with the engine running for about 30 to 60 minutes. Before you start, park away from dry grass and traffic, check the fuel gauge is above a fifth, and open the bonnet so the engine bay does not overheat. Run it only when the DPF indicator is lit.
- Apply the parking brake and put the gear lever in P.
- Start the engine and let it warm up until the temperature gauge reaches the middle.
- Switch on the air conditioner with the blower at maximum.
- Switch on the high beam and the rear defogger.
- On the cluster's warning message page, hold the OK button. The screen reads "Filter regenerating..." with the time left.
- When the screen reads "Self regeneration completed", switch the engine off and on again.

During Self Regeneration the cluster counts down the time left
When it finishes, switch the engine off and on again
What stops a Self Regeneration
The engine drops to idle and the procedure stops if the engine overheats or was not warm enough, if the gear lever leaves P for D or R, if the accelerator is pressed or if the car moves. Holding OK again during the procedure cancels it.
When the Creta DPF needs a workshop visit
A Hyundai workshop should check the DPF if the light stays on after the drive, if the light changes from steady to blinking during Self Regeneration, or if the engine check lamp comes on with it. Until then the car limits acceleration to protect the engine. Driving for a long time with the DPF light blinking can damage the filter, raise fuel consumption and dilute the engine oil. The diesel takes 4.8 litres of ACEA C5, C3 or C2 oil, the grades for an engine with a particulate filter; the engine oil capacity and grade page has every engine. Diesel with more than 10 ppm of sulphur, or with unspecified additives, can also damage it.
Hyundai's extended warranty leaves out the catalytic converter and exhaust; the Creta warranty terms list what the standard warranty and each plan cover.
Creta diesel filter price
The Creta diesel's fuel filter costs ₹974 at Hyundai's service price, as on 1 November 2026, and is replaced every 20,000 km or two years with the periodic service. The diesel particulate filter is not a periodic-service part and is not on Hyundai's service list.
Can I keep driving with the regeneration message on?
Yes, as far as a safe place to park and run the Self Regeneration on an automatic, or as far as a Hyundai workshop on a manual; the message asks for that procedure, which the owner's manual writes for the automatic. Do not keep driving for long if the DPF light starts blinking or the engine check lamp comes on: acceleration is limited then, and the filter can be damaged.
Can I regenerate the DPF while driving?
Yes, when only the DPF warning light is on: driving at more than 60 km/h, or above second gear at 1,250 to 2,500 rpm, for about 30 minutes may clear it. The "Diesel filter regeneration required. See owner's manual" message is different: it asks for the parked Self Regeneration.
