Creta Problems on Record
Creta problems on record come down to one recall notice in India: on 21 February 2024, 7,698 Creta and Verna 1.5 petrol IVT cars built from 13 February 2023 to 6 June 2023 were recalled over the electronic oil pump controller. No recall covers the Creta, Creta N Line or Creta EV on sale now, as on 1 November 2026.
Repairs sit outside the Creta running cost estimate, which adds five years of scheduled services, insurance renewals and fuel.
Creta recall notices: dates, units and the fix
The notice covers cars built before the January 2024 facelift, so a Creta bought new today is outside it. The fix reported at the time was an inspection, with the electronic oil pump controller replaced where needed, at no cost to the owner.
| Notice date | Models and engine | Built | Cars | Fault notified |

How to check a Creta's VIN for a recall
Hyundai and its dealers contact the owners of cars in a recall or service campaign, and a car's VIN (vehicle identification number, the chassis number on the registration certificate) can be checked against open campaigns on Hyundai's own site or at any Hyundai workshop. Hyundai publishes no list of past service campaigns.
Creta DCT issues: what Hyundai has notified
No recall or notice covers the Creta's 7-speed DCT, fitted to the 1.5 turbo petrol. Hyundai gives it two heat warnings. "Transmission temperature is high! Stop safely" appears when hard launches or stop-start driving on a slope heat the clutch: stop with the engine running and the car in P until it cools. If driving goes on, "Transmission hot! Park with engine on" follows and the clutch is disabled until it cools, with a waiting time shown.
Creta EV problems: notices to date
No recall covers the Creta EV, Hyundai's Creta Electric, as on 1 November 2026. Its high-voltage battery has its own warranty, separate from the car's; both are in the Creta warranty terms.
Hyundai Creta problems owners report
Owners of the facelifted Creta report that the centre console creaks or squeaks when pressed, by a knee or over a speed breaker, and develops creaks and rattles with use; no count of affected cars exists. Owners of the 1.5 diesel report that the diesel particulate filter warning comes on when the car is used mostly for short city trips, and goes off after a sustained faster drive or the manual's regeneration procedure.
Hyundai gives two different instructions. When the diesel filter warning light comes on by itself, it may go off after about 30 minutes of driving at more than 60 km/h, or above second gear at 1,250 to 2,500 rpm; if it stays on, the owner's manual recommends a check at a Hyundai workshop. When the cluster shows "Diesel filter regeneration required. See owner's manual", the car needs the manual's Self Regeneration procedure instead of a drive, run parked with the parking brake on, gear lever in P, engine warmed up, which takes about 30 to 60 minutes; the manual writes it for the automatic and gives no version for the manual gearbox, which goes to a Hyundai workshop. If the filter indicator then blinks or the engine check lamp comes on with it, the car needs a Hyundai workshop.
What to check before taking delivery
- Match the VIN on the car with the invoice and the registration papers.
- See that no warning light stays on after start-up.
- On a DCT, Hyundai describes light vibration and a clicking sound at take-off as normal; a blinking gear indicator with a chime is the heat warning.
- Press the centre console and listen for the creak owners report.
What to check on a used Creta
- On a 1.5 petrol IVT built from 13 February 2023 to 6 June 2023, ask the owner or a Hyundai workshop whether the recall work was done.
- On a diesel, ask how the car was used: mostly short trips make the filter warning more likely, owners report.
- Check the service record against Hyundai's schedule: every 10,000 km or 12 months, whichever comes first.
- On a Creta under 3 years old, the standard warranty passes to the next owner, but it pays only for defects its terms accept, and neglected maintenance is excluded; confirm the remaining cover at a Hyundai workshop, and see the Creta warranty terms for what it covers.
- For what the car should be worth, see Creta resale value by year.
What is the weakness of Creta?
On the record, the Creta's weak points are specification gaps: no Bharat NCAP crash test of the current Creta (as on 1 November 2026); five seats, not seven; no wireless Android Auto or Apple CarPlay on the base model (they start with the EX). Owners also report centre console creaks on the facelifted car. With the one recall above, these are the Creta problems on record as on 1 November 2026.
