Creta diesel vs petrol price gap per trim
Hyundai prices the 1.5 CRDi diesel above the 1.5 MPi petrol in every trim that has both. In the E, the lowest-priced pair, the petrol manual is ₹10,90,700 and the diesel manual ₹12,61,000. On the road the gap grows: Delhi charges road tax of 12.5% of the ex-showroom price on the diesel and 10% of the ex-showroom price on the petrol, which comes to ₹1,57,625 against ₹1,09,070 on the E. Among automatics the diesel's 6-speed AT is set against the petrol IVT of the same trim, from the EX(O) upwards.

The on road figure adds Delhi road tax, registration and fees, the MCD parking fee, TCS at 1% because the ex-showroom price is above ₹10,00,000, insurance (three-year third party and one-year own damage on an insured value of 95% of ex-showroom at the zone A rate, with personal accident cover and GST) and a FASTag to the ex-showroom price. It excludes a loan's hypothecation fee, accessories, extended warranty and handling charges.
Creta petrol vs diesel mileage
The diesel's ARAI figure is 4.4 km/l higher than the petrol's with a manual gearbox, and 1.4 km/l higher with an automatic (the diesel AT at 19.1 km/l against the IVT at 17.7 km/l).

Running cost at example fuel prices
Fuel cost per kilometre is the fuel price divided by the mileage. At the example prices in the table, the E petrol manual uses ₹5.75 of fuel a kilometre and the diesel ₹4.13, so the diesel saves ₹1,619 every 1,000 km.
| Pair | Petrol, per km | Diesel, per km | Diesel saves, per km | Per 1,000 km |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| E manual17.4 against 21.8 km/l | ₹5.75 | ₹4.13 | ₹1.62 | ₹1,619 |

Break-even kilometres for the diesel
Divide the diesel's extra on road cost by its saving per kilometre and you get the distance at which it pays back in fuel. For the E manual pair that is 1,49,393 km (₹2,41,820 ÷ ₹1.62 a km); for the EX(O) automatic pair, 2,45,470 km. The distance does not depend on how far you drive each month; driving more reaches it sooner. It moves with the fuel prices: a wider gap between the petrol and diesel cost per kilometre shortens it, a narrower one lengthens it.
| Driving a month | E manual: 1,49,393 km | EX(O) automatic: 2,45,470 km |
|---|---|---|
| 500 km | 24.9 years | 40.9 years |
| 1,000 km | 12.4 years | 20.5 years |
| 1,500 km | 8.3 years | 13.6 years |
| 2,000 km | 6.2 years | 10.2 years |
| 3,000 km | 4.1 years | 6.8 years |

At these prices, the diesel manual recovers its premium within ten years only if you drive more than about 1,200 km a month; below that, the petrol costs less in purchase and fuel together. The cheapest diesel, the E at ₹12,61,000, has no sunroof; the cheapest petrol with one, the EX(O) at ₹13,14,200, costs ₹53,200 more ex-showroom and ₹29,482 more on the road in Delhi (Creta sunroof model price).
Which engines get which gearbox
The petrol side has two engines: the 1.5 MPi and the 1.5 Turbo GDi, which Hyundai sells only on the King with a 7-speed DCT. The diesel has one, the 1.5 CRDi, with a 6-speed MT or 6-speed AT; IVT, DCT or diesel AT sets out the three automatics.
| Engine | cc | Power | Torque | Gearboxes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.5 MPi Petrol | 1,497 | 115 PS113 bhp | 143.8 Nm | 6-speed MT, IVT |
| 1.5 Turbo GDi Petrol | 1,482 | 160 PS158 bhp | 253 Nm | 7-speed DCT |
